Teramind is one of the most capable monitoring platforms on the market, and one of the most demanding to buy. Every standard plan needs at least five seats, Starter costs $14 per seat per month billed annually, and the invoice is paid a year upfront and is non-refundable. The smallest contract works out at $69 a month before you have added a single extra user.
That is why most people searching for a Teramind alternative are not looking for something weaker. They want the parts they actually use — activity tracking, screenshots, live screen view, reports — without the seat minimum, the enterprise setup and the price. We compared seven alternatives on what they track, what they really cost, how they deploy and what the trial gives you. All prices were checked on vendors' own sites in October 2026.
Why teams look for a Teramind alternative
Teramind earns its reputation where it matters: behavior rules that alert or block, data loss prevention, session playback for investigations, and a choice of cloud or on-premise deployment. If insider risk is your actual problem, it is a serious tool. The friction shows up when a team buys it for everyday visibility instead.
There is a feature gap too, but it runs the other way from what buyers expect. Starter — the plan most teams can afford — includes screen capture, live view and only limited behavior rules. Unlimited rules and anomaly detection start on UAM at $28 per seat, and full data loss prevention is its own $32 plan. In other words, the security features people choose Teramind for mostly sit above the entry price.
7 Teramind alternatives compared
Prices are in US dollars as published by each vendor in October 2026 and may change. The first row is Teramind itself, for reference.
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Seat minimum | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teramind | Insider risk and DLP | $14 per seat/month, annual | 5 seats | 7 days (cloud) |
| CleverControl | Best all-round replacement | $5.30 per computer/month (12-month plan) | None | Yes |
| ActivTrak | Analytics-first productivity | Free up to 3 users; $10 per user/month, annual | Not published | 14 days |
| Veriato | Forensic-grade records | $18 per user/month, annual | 5 users | On request |
| InterGuard | Monitoring, filtering and DLP | Price on request | On request | Demo only |
| Controlio | Screen recording on a budget | $6.67 per user/month, annual | 5 users | 14 days |
| KeepActive | Self-hosted monitoring | $5.50 per user/month, annual | None | 14 days |
| Hubstaff | Time, projects and billing | $4.99 per seat/month, annual ($7 monthly) | None | 14 days |
How we compared them
We judged each tool on the things that decide whether a switch is worth it:
1. CleverControl — the closest all-round replacement
CleverControl covers what most Teramind customers use day to day: attendance and working hours, apps and websites, active and idle time, screenshots, live screen view and screen recording, all in one web dashboard with website blocking and centralized reports. What it leaves out is the enterprise layer — policy engines, DLP rules and the consulting-style setup that comes with them. For a team that bought Teramind to see how company computers are used, that trade removes most of the cost and nearly all of the complexity.
Licensing is the other difference. CleverControl is priced per computer with no minimum, so five people cost five licences and three people cost three. Shared machines are billed once no matter how many people sign in.
- Attendance, apps, websites, screenshots and live screen view in one tool
- No seat minimum, and plans start at three months rather than a year
- Priced per device, which suits shared and shift computers
- No data loss prevention or automated blocking rules
- Live monitoring and screen recording need the Pro plan
- Windows and macOS only — no Linux or mobile agent
Choose it if Teramind was overkill and you want visibility, reports and screen activity at a small-team price. Skip it if policy-based blocking and DLP are the reason you bought Teramind in the first place.
Pricing: Standard from $5.30 per computer per month on a 12-month plan for five computers; 20% off from 30 computers and 30% off from 100. See current prices.
2. ActivTrak — for trends instead of screens
ActivTrak answers a different question from Teramind. Instead of building a record of what one person did, it reports how teams spend their working hours — apps, websites, focus and collaboration time, attendance and workload balance. Screenshots and full URLs are not part of the standard plans; they come with the Screen Details add-on. Billing is annual only, and the free plan covers up to three people with 30 days of history.
- Genuinely free for up to three people
- Strong workload and productivity analytics for managers
- Screenshots and full URLs are a paid add-on
- Annual billing only, and no insider-risk rules like Teramind's
Choose it if you want coaching data and workload trends rather than screen-level evidence. Skip it if you need screenshots, session playback or blocking.
3. Veriato — for evidence-grade records
Veriato is the alternative for organisations that are not leaving the security category, only the vendor. Its user activity monitoring records more than 130 data points — screenshots and screen video, keystrokes, email, chat, web, apps, files, USB and printing — with AI productivity scoring and unlimited alerts, on Windows, Mac, Chromebook and Android, in the cloud or on your own servers. Insider risk management with risk scoring and sentiment analysis is a separate product, quoted individually and starting at 20 users.
- Detailed audit trail suitable for investigations and compliance
- Covers Chromebook and Android as well as Windows and Mac
- Costs more per user than Teramind Starter, with the same five-user floor
- Insider-risk features are a separate quote-only product
Choose it if you are a regulated or mid-size organisation that needs records to stand up in an investigation. Skip it if you were hoping to spend less than you do on Teramind.
4. InterGuard — for monitoring with filtering and DLP
InterGuard is the closest match to Teramind's feature list from a single agent: user activity monitoring with keystrokes, screenshots and file tracking, plus web filtering, data-loss blocking across email, web, USB and cloud storage, application control and remote lockdown or wipe of a lost laptop. It runs on Windows, Mac, Chromebook and mobile, and deploys in the cloud, on-premise or in a private cloud. The catch is commercial rather than technical: there are no public prices and no self-serve trial, so every evaluation starts with a demo call.
- Monitoring, filtering, DLP and endpoint lockdown in one product
- Chromebook and phone coverage that Teramind does not match
- No published prices or plans to compare
- Total cost depends on which modules you bundle
Choose it if IT or security owns the project and wants filtering and DLP alongside monitoring. Skip it if you want to compare a price before booking a call.
5. Controlio — for continuous screen recording
Controlio keeps the part of Teramind that investigations rely on — watching what happened on screen — at roughly half the price. It streams live screens and records continuous screen video rather than periodic screenshots, tracks apps and websites with AI categorisation, scores productivity and raises rule-based alerts. The entry plan keeps six months of data, which is longer than most mid-range tools. On-premise deployment is available by quote; API, single sign-on and Active Directory sync sit on the Advanced plan at $9.99.
- Video-style screen recording at a mid-range price
- Six months of data history on the entry plan
- Same five-user minimum you were trying to escape
- No Linux, Chromebook or mobile agents
Choose it if screen recording and productivity analytics are what you actually used Teramind for. Skip it if your team is smaller than five people or runs Linux.
6. KeepActive (formerly Kickidler) — for keeping data on your own servers
If you chose Teramind for its on-premise option, KeepActive does that and little else — which is the point. It is self-hosted monitoring with live multi-screen viewing, screen video recording, keystroke logging, time tracking and productivity analysis, on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it runs on an isolated network if you need it to. A separate DLP edition adds insider-threat detection. One-time perpetual licences are available instead of a subscription. A vendor-hosted cloud version is still in progress, so for now you run the server.
- Runs entirely on your own infrastructure, even air-gapped
- Linux support and one-time perpetual licences
- No vendor-hosted cloud yet — the server is your job
- Prices differ between the vendor's two websites; confirm with sales
Choose it if monitoring data must stay inside your own network. Skip it if nobody on your side wants to maintain a server.
7. Hubstaff — for time, projects and billing
Some teams buy a monitoring platform when what they needed was hours they can bill. Hubstaff tracks time against projects and budgets, turns it into invoices and payroll, and adds activity levels, apps, websites and optional screenshots on top. GPS and geofencing come with the Locations add-on for field work. The important difference from Teramind: by default, tracking happens while the timer runs, not continuously through the day.
- Links time to projects, budgets, invoices and payroll
- Cheapest entry price in this comparison, with no seat minimum
- Activity is recorded only while the timer runs, unless you add the paid Silent App
- Caps on screenshots, apps and URLs on lower plans
Choose it if you manage contractors or field staff and bill by project. Skip it if you need continuous visibility through the working day.
Teramind vs ActivTrak vs CleverControl
These three come up most often in the same shortlist, and they answer three different questions: security, analytics and everyday visibility.
| Teramind | ActivTrak | CleverControl | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting price | $14 per seat/month | Free up to 3; $10 per user/month | $5.30 per computer/month |
| Seat minimum | 5 seats | Not published | None |
| Billing | Annual, paid upfront and non-refundable | Annual only | 3, 6 or 12-month plans |
| Free trial | 7 days cloud, 14 days on-premise | 14 days | Yes |
| Screenshots and screen view | Yes, with session playback | Screenshots via the Screen Details add-on | Yes; live view and recording on Pro |
| Rules and DLP | Limited rules on Starter; full DLP on the $32 plan | No DLP | Website blocking; no DLP |
| Deployment | Cloud or on-premise | Cloud | Cloud or on-premise |
Put simply: pick Teramind if insider risk is a board-level problem, ActivTrak if you are managing productivity rather than people's screens, and CleverControl if you want to see how company computers are used without an enterprise contract. Before you switch from Teramind
Switching monitoring tools is mostly an administrative job, not a technical one. Five things are worth settling before you sign anything:
- Check your renewal date. Annual Teramind subscriptions are paid upfront and are not refunded, so the cheapest moment to leave is the end of a term.
- Export what you need to keep. Decide which reports, recordings and alerts have to survive the move, and export them while the account is still live.
- List the features you actually used. Open the admin console and look at which rules ever fired. Teams are often surprised that the DLP half was never switched on.
- Pilot on one team first. Run the new tool on five or ten computers for two weeks before rolling it out, and compare the reports with what you had.
- Update your monitoring notice. If what you collect changes, tell your team again and update the policy — in many countries that notice is a legal requirement, not a courtesy.
Which Teramind alternative should you choose?
Team smaller than five people: CleverControl or Hubstaff.
